Keys and her her husband, music producer and rapper Swizz Beatz, became parents on Thursday night, according to a representative for the singer.
The couple named their son Egypt Daoud Dean.
It's the first child for the 29-year-old star and the fourth child for Beatz, whose real name is Kaseem Dean.
The couple was married July 31 this year, and have been together since 2008.
Beatz, 31, sent a tweet on Friday that showed his joy at the birth.
"I'm so thankful for everything I been blessed with in my life wowwwwww!," he tweeted.
Keys has won 12 Grammy awards since releasing her first album, Songs in A Minor, in 2001.
Recent success for Keys came from her hit song Empire State Of Mind (Part II), with the catchy "Hear it for New York, New York, New York" lyrics.
Not surprisingly, the singer chose the Big Apple as the birth place.
The song also became a favourite to spoof, with a number of copies appearing on the internet.
Beatz produced rap acts before mounting his first solo album in 2002, G.H.E.T.T.O. Stories.
Before the birth he spoke of his pride at being the child's father.
"Alicia is definitely one of those great parents-to-be. She's super ready," he said.
"Super glowing. Super happy."
