Sinopec has shut down its operations at the construction site of the Atuabo Gas processing plant in the western region.
The Chinese company has asked all workers to go home until further notice because government of Ghana could not release funds to continue the project.
About 50 Ghanaian staff working on the project have been asked to submit all working gears in their possession to the company while the Chinese counterparts have withdrawn all heavy industrial construction equipment from the site.
In an interview with Joy News’ Western Region correspondent, Kwaku Owusu Peprah one of the workers said they were told to stay home because government has not paid the amount it ought to have paid for the project to continue.
“Nobody is working on the field. The Ghanaian and Chinese workers are all out of the field,” he said.
