Social media has been reacting to a decision by US Cremonese forward, Felix Afena-Gyan to turn down the chance to play for Ghana’s Black Meteors ahead of their U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Algeria.
Afena-Gyan was part of 8 foreign-based players called up by head coach, Ibrahim Tanko for the fixture as they seek to book a slot for the main tournament.

The youngster was expected to join his colleagues as they opened camping in Accra earlier this week before travelling on Wednesday night.
However, the forward has rejected the opportunity to be with the team.
Ghanaians on social media have aired their view on the matter.

Who in the blackstars forward line should be dropped for this Afena Gyan?
— Osman Salim Wa (@OsmanSalimWa) March 23, 2023
This guy is not blackstars standard.
Arsenal #10 Smith Rowe still plays for England under 21. Balogun, who is smashing it at league 1 still plays under 21 for England.
Let's be serious! https://t.co/YaToMxh3hX
I seriously doubt Afena-Gyan would have any issues if a) he was beaten to the World Cup squad by guys like Paintsil & RYK, b) there was proactive communication around that selection & c) he was communicated with proactively on his national team status moving forwards. https://t.co/sJdWk0RvRl

You will be the first person to bash the FA and coaches if players are not called on merit but today let call ‘’Afena Gyan’’and you think the coach does not know what he is doing Ernest Nuamah is even part of the U23 when we all know he is supposed to be part of the main team https://t.co/GlYTV3PfY0
