Soldier, policeman and others arrested for robbery

A police constable, a soldier and two others are in the grips of the Accra Regional Police Command for robbery.

The constable, who, according to records, is on indictment for a similar offence, and the others have admitted the offence and are being processed for court.

The suspects are Samuel Asamoah, 32, police constable; Yeboah Asante, 34, soldier; Richard Nutornutsi, 30, a driver; and Jerry Somi, 26, a musician.

Speaking to the press about the arrest, Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander, ACP Timothy Bonga stated that on December 12 at about 12pm, the gang trailed the target from the bank.

According to him, they tracked him till they arrested him in front of his house at Madina.

ACP Bonga detailed that on reaching the entrance of the complainant's gate, Samuel and Yeboah, who were dressed in police and military uniforms, informed the victim that he was under arrest for fraud.

They told the victim thathe was being escorted to Burma Camp for further investigations.

Quickly, Samuel and Yeboah bundled the victim into an Opel Corsa cab with registration number GW 6449-15, which was being driven by Richard Nutornutsi.

The Deputy Regional Commander stated that on the way to Burma Camp, the gang forcibly collected an amount of GHC 1,860 and an iPhone 5 from the victim and then abandoned him and sped off.

In a related case, one Linda Asiedu Kodua, 28, a distributor of credit cards, has been arrested for robbing her employers.

Linda is said to have conspired with three others, who are yet to be identified, to steal an amount of GHC32,000.

After they succeeded in the operation, she reported to her bosses and the police that she was robbed and raped by three unidentified armed men at the shop.

A series of inconsistencies in Linda's story alerted the police that there was foul play. When Linda was confronted, she confessed to the crime and has since returned GHC 10,000.
