The 66 Artillery Regiment in Ho in the Volta Region has justified its maltreatment of a police officer there.
Corporal David Dzokoto is alleged to have been assaulted last Friday by soldiers from the 66 Artillery regiment.
According to Cpl. Dzokoto the soldiers slapped him following an argument over a parking space and also smashed his car.
But the soldiers have defended their action.
The Commanding Officer of the regiment Lt. Col. Seidu Abass told Joy News the police officer was drunk and acted irresponsibly.
He said his men only heckled the policeman but did not assault him as was reported.
Lt. Col. Abass said Cpl. Dzokoto is not fit to be a policeman given how irresponsibly he got drunk.
