Caseley Hayford, an Economist and a key member of Occupy Ghana, a movement to fight corruption in Ghana says the "stench of corruption" has become all too suffocating and Ghanaians must begin to act.
At a forum currently underway to prescribe effective measures to fighting corruption, Mr. Hayford said it is time to make corruption extremely unattractive in the country.
Chronicling what he claims to be examples of corruption in Ghana, Hayford said: "Somebody is trying to steal workers' money. The money for the Black Stars has been stolen. Somebody is negotiating a loan of $700m without proper Parliamentary approval and somebody is refusing to consider a petition to remove the CHRAJ boss."
He added the citizens should not be on their knees begging for something to be done to corruption which is fast festering in the country's institutions.
"We are tired of begging people to do what they are paid to do," he noted, adding the time has come for citizens to fight corruption in their own way.
Describing the OccupyGhana movement as "nonviolent; non-partisan; not about removing anybody from office," he said the movement is an opportunity for citizens to change what is wrong.
He said the mission of the movement is to improve the governance structures in the country.
Four eminent personalities are expected to speak during the forum and proffer solutions to the scourge of corruption in Ghana.
The four are Lawyer Ace Ankomah, Joy FM's Manasseh Azure-Awuni, Dr. Esi Ansah, a lecturer at the Ashesi University and head pastor of ICGC, Dr. Mensa Otabil.
