Multimedia Group Ltd’s campaign to address maternal and child deaths at Kumasi-based Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) continues, as MPs and health officials join the critical discussion.

Members of Parliament’s Select Committee on Health, officials from the Health Ministry and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) will join the effort to end the four-deaths-per-day at the facility.

They will join other key stakeholders in the health sector and hosts of Joy FM’s flagship programme, the Super Morning Show, and MultiTV’s AM Show for a public discussion a bid to find a solution to maternal healthcare challenges at KATH.

A documentary by Joy News’ Seth Kwame Boateng's, titled ‘Next to Die’ was premiered in Kumasi two days ago and has since attracted many health professionals who have called for the speedy completion of an abandoned 1,000-bed capacity maternity block at the hospital.

Seth revealed in the documentary that at least four babies die at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital every day. On a bad day as many as seven babies die.

Nurses and doctors do not dispute the figures because they reflect an uncomfortable reality they live with daily.

On Day One of the campaign, a victim of the challenges at KATH, Mr. Owusu Ansah, narrated on the Super Morning Show, the heartrending circumstances under which he lost two babies in a row at the hospital.

Amidst tears, intermittent sobbing and eventual loud burst into uncontrollable crying, he painted the picture of slaughterhouse rather than a hospital of KATH.

The campaign is part of Joy News’ social change drive dubbed Special Assignment.

Super Morning show host, Kojo Yankson, says Wednesday’s show will delve into finding a lasting solution to the problems at KATH, focusing on how to get funding for the completion of the maternity block and important timelines.
