Sports and Exercise Psychologist Patrick Ofori has advocated for the change of the Accra Sports stadium to an Astro turf.
The ex-Black Stars' psychologist pursued a research for FIFA entitled 'The Psychological perception of playing surfaces' during a Fifa workshop at Cardiff Metro University in Wales.
According to Ofori, the maintenance culture and climatic condition in Accra and Tamale is not suitable for the enhancement of the Tamale and Accra sports stadium.
He said on Asempa FM's 'Fire for Fire': "I have heard that the National Sports Council are planning to build a bore hole at the Accra sports stadium in order to get water to shower the pitch.
"This is a good idea but the stadium is not far from the sea. So they will get salty water which is not good for the growth of the grass on the pitch."
"I will therefore suggest we change the Accra and Tamale sports stadia into an Astro turf because an artificial pitch will be less expensive as compared to stadia that will demand pitch maintenance every month."
"The climatic conditions in Accra and Tamale is not good for the stadia."
The green surface of the Accra Sports Stadium has now turned entirely grey – making football viewing especially on television highly unattractive.
The situation which appears to be getting worse by the day has been attributed to the shortage of water.
The Ghana Water Company have been unable to constantly supply water needed for various operations at the stadium which includes the maintenance of the pitch.
Currently, the various national teams have to travel out of the national camping facility at Prampram anytime they want an artificial surface to train on.
