Spousal murder may sound weird but the trend seems to be on the rise. The dream of every woman after all the marriage vows is marital bliss.
Unfortunately, on many occasions these marriages turn sour with some women being killed by their own lovers. As the world marks international women’s day, Joy News’ Fred Smith takes a look at the many spousal murders that have taken place in the country and reports the situation is dire.He cited a study titled “Deadly Relationships and Toxic Bonds” which reveals that nearly 60 spouses have killed each other as a result of small misunderstandings.“A recent example is a tie and dye dealer who set his wife ablaze over the week-end,” Smith stated.Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi say the hospital has recently been overwhelmed by the huge number of injuries from domestic violence.Dr Raphael Kumah Ametepey, an orthopedic and trauma consultant at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital said domestic violence “is on a rise and we must do something about it.”He said some women have suffered machete and gunshot wounds adding, the earlier something is done about it the better.Meanwhile some Ghanaians have expressed different opinions on the cause of spousal murders in the country.Whilst some accuse their partners of cheating, others insist a nagging wives are sometimes to blame for the incident.
