StarHealth Insurance Company Limited, a subsidiary of Star Assurance Group, has officially launched operations in Ghana following two years of foundational development.
Star Health is a private health insurer, offering affordable and seamless services for individuals, groups, SMEs, and large corporations. It provides coverage for outpatient, inpatient, specialist consultations, maternity care, employee assistance, preventive healthcare, chronic care, and wellness benefits, including access to gyms and nutrition clubs.
This public launch comes after a period of steady growth since June 2022, during which Star Health onboarded new clients, expanded its provider network, and upgraded its digital systems to offer comprehensive private health insurance.
The Chief Executive of Star Health Insurance Ghana, Ronald Oppong Adom, stated, “while today marks our formal launch, we have been providing accessible, affordable and comprehensive coverage since 2023. During this period, we have created 12,072 healthcare footprints for 1,289 households, across 168 provider locations in excess of GHC7m. We are dedicated to breaking down the barriers such as high costs and limited coverage, so that families and businesses can count on dependable care whenever they need it most.”

Mr. Oppong continued, "We are currently the only health insurer that offers comprehensive Employee Assistance Program that includes Counselling and Psychological support. We have doubled up on our Wellness Plan with a strategic partnership with SNNIT Sports Emporium as we will very soon launch the Star Health Stay Healthy Aerobic Campaigns.”
Mr. Ernest Amartey-Vondee, Board Chairman of StarHealth, explained the company’s deep engagement. He said, "Over the past three years, we have gained invaluable insights into the needs of those we serve. Through collaborations, we have developed innovative healthcare solutions that are more accessible, efficient, and responsive than ever before."

He added, "StarHealth Insurance is not just a service provider. We are a dedicated partner in the journey toward better health. Our flexible plans cater to Ghana’s diverse population. We offer tailored solutions for individuals, families, and businesses."
Dr. Wiiliam Omane-Adjekum, Director of Private Health Insurance Scheme Directorate at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), speaking on behalf of Dr. Victor Bampoe, the CEO of the NHIA highlighted the importance of a robust and inclusive health insurance sector in Ghana. "Growth in health insurance is more than increasing numbers. It means building a safety net for every Ghanaian. I commend StarHealth for offering affordable, flexible plans to provide timely care for many citizens," Dr. Bampoe stated.

He outlined the role of private health insurers, such as StarHealth, which complements the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). "NHIS provides universal healthcare access. Ghana’s population and healthcare demands are expanding. Private-public partnerships like StarHealth are vital to meet Ghanaians’ diverse care requirements," he explained.

The launch was attended by esteemed dignitaries from the Star Assurance Group, the Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG), the Private Health Insurance Association of Ghana, and several other notable organizations.
