Ama Akyaa, 38, a resident of Abuakwa in Kumasi was on Wednesday arrested when she attempted selling a seven-year-old boy for GH¢50,000.She was grabbed by two policemen who upon a tip-off, feigned interest in the transaction.Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sampson Anane-Appiah, Bibiani District Police Commander, who disclosed this, said initially, Akyaa claimed that the boy, Emmanuel Wilberforce Anane, was her son. However, preliminary investigations revealed that she allegedly lured the boy at Kejetia in Kumasi and took him to Bibiani for sale. The boy, he said, mentioned his name but did not know the name of his hometown and parents.DSP Anane-Appiah said Akyaa contacted a certain man on telephone telling him that she had got “a key” for sale, ostensibly referring to the boy.The District Police Commander said, the man who received the information quickly hinted the police and two personnel feigned interest in the deal.He said, on Wednesday, Akyaa came to Bibiani with the boy and the two policemen posed as "Mallams," and bargained.Akyaa was said to have insisted on the GH¢50,000 and nothing less. It was at that moment that she was arrested.DSP Anane-Appiah said Akyaa was put before the Bibiani Circuit Court presided by Justice Emmanuel Ampomah on Thursday on a charge of slave dealing. Her plea was not taken and the court remanded her into prison custody for two weeks.DSP Anane-Appiah said anyone whose son is missing should contact the Bibiani police on 0245208488.Source: The Ghanaian Times
