Violent rainstorms are continuing to wreak havoc on many villages in the Northern Region with the latest being the Savelugu/Nanton municipality.
About 76 houses had their roofs completely ripped off after a rainstorm hit the area over the weekend.
Twelve classrooms in three basic schools of the municipality have also had their roofs ripped off completely, compelling school authorities to combine two classrooms in one in order for teaching and learning to go on.
The affected victims are also living with friends, family members and relatives in the area.
The Head Teacher of Duko Anglican primary school, Mrs Vivian Ohene-Adu and the assemblyman for Nabogu electoral area Alhassan Abukakari have both appealed to government to come to their aid.
“The situation is affecting teaching and learning in the school, the school as of now has no other option than to combine the pupils,” Mrs Ohene-Adu said.
Municipal Chief Executive for Savelugu/Nanton, Prince Askia Mohammed, has expressed shock at the extent of damage caused by the rainstorm and appealed to NGOs and other benevolent organizations to come to the aid of the victims.
Meanwhile the Yendi municipal assembly has taken delivery of a consignment of relief items made up of roofing sheets rubber buckets and roofing nails to be distributed to displaced schools and residents of the area who were affected in last two weeks' rainstorm that swept through the area.
