A Final Year student of the Bibiani Senior High/Technical School has committed suicide by taking poison and setting himself ablaze.
The deceased, Kojo Frimpon, 28, is said to have set himself ablaze in his room at Subri-Nkwanta in the Bibiani District in the Western Region.
Frimpon, who, according to his father, Mr. Kwabena Oppong, did not show any sign of depression before the incident, did not leave any note as to why he went that way.
According to the Police, the incident which occurred before 9:00 p.m. on Monday was at the blind side of Mr. Oppong who was also in the house, but only got to know about his son's action when clouds of smoke started emanating from the room.
They said Mr. Oppong rushed into the room, only to find the deceased lying unconscious on the floor and called for help.
He told the Police that they first put out the fire in the room, after which they found a container holding the remnants of the substance which Frimpong had drunk near the unconscious body.
Frimpong was then rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased was among final-year students currently writing this year's West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to Mr. Oppong, Frimpong was a very gentle person who was very lively on the day of the incident and did not show any sign of despondency.
The Police said they had taken control of the container for examination at the Ghana Standards Board to know the exact concoction the deceased had drunk.
The body has since been deposited at the Bibiani Government Hospital morgue for autopsy.
