The Supreme Court has adjourned the case in which some prominent political figures are seeking the abrogation of the sale of 70 percent shares in Ghana Telecom to Vodafone.
The group made up of mainly members of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), including, Bright Akwetey and Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, want the sale reversed because they say it is not in the best interest of Ghanaians.
The case was heard for the first time Monday by a Supreme Court after being before the High Court for more than a year.
The Chief Justice Georgina Wood, who chaired the Supreme Court panel, was dissatisfied with the high court’s failure to comply with the rules regulating the transfer of constitutional matters to the Supreme Court.
The High Court is required to furnish the Supreme Court with all relevant details relating to the case but it appeared the court failed to do so.
Mrs Wood has therefore ordered the High Court to comply with the rules within 14 days so the case can be heard.
The case had moved to the Supreme Court because lawyers for the plaintiff had raised a number of constitutional issues relating to the sale of Ghana Telecom to Vodafone which was beyond the jurisdiction of the high court.
The case will now be heard on the 9th of March.
