Mr Adjei Baffour, Central Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has advised followers of the party not to joke with the National Democratic Congress's desire to regain power next year, because NDC is poised to match the NPP squarely, come elections 2008.
He said in order to shatter the NDC’s high hopes, NPP supporters and well-wishers must work harder to enable the party to clock a landslide victory.
Mr Adjei Baffour said there is no doubt that victory for the ruling party after next year's general elections would definitely spell the doom of the NDC for good.
It therefore behooves NPP followers to commence intensive electioneering campaign at all levels to capture as many qualified voters as possible for the party before the 2008 elections comes off.
Addressing 220 NPP activists made up of 10 constituency executives, and 210 polling station leaders drawn from the various parts of the Effutu constituency at a day's workshop at Winneba, Mr. Adjei Baffour described the pending 2008 polls as "champion of champions bout", which non of the larger political parties should toy with.
He praised constituency and polling station executives who participated in the workshop designed to sensitise them, particularly the polling station leaders, on the NPP constitution and other important issues, which have direct bearings on next year's general elections.
Mr. Adjei Baffour was optimistic that with effective collaboration they would be able to retain the Effutu parliamentary seat for NPP, come 2008 election.
He told participants that the NDC is particularly not happy that the Central Region had fallen into the hands of the NPP, hence the determination to move heaven and earth to win back most of the parliamentary seats in the region.
Speaking on the topic: "The Role of Polling Station Executive Towards Peaceful and Successful General Elections", Mr Robert A. Ghunney, an executive member of the party, educated polling station leaders who attended the workshop on the party's constitution, saying they could only make meaningful contributions to the socio-economic and political advancement of the party if they properly and critically studied the guidelines of the political party they were following.
Mr Kofi Taylor, Effutu Constituency Chairman of the party, called for unity, co-operation and mutual understanding among the rank and file so that together they could come out with the best strategies to win the Effutu seat hands down.
Mr Taylor announced that the Effutu constituency executives would organise a special orientation course on electoral procedures early next year for all polling station executives of the party in the area to upgrade their knowledge and skills on laws and regulations governing general elections in the country.
He said resource persons for the proposed course would be drawn from the Central Regional Electoral Office, adding that the move is designed to supplement the efforts of the Electoral Commission to conduct free and fair elections.
In his opening remarks, Mr Felix Kwei Tagoe, an elder of the party, charged all branch leaders of the party to let the spirit of unity and hard work be their hallmark to enable them to mobilise and attract more members and supporters for the party.
