The Ghana National Bureau of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme has held a training workshop for Police personnel in Takoradi. The training, held Monday September 16, 2013 at the premises of the Takoradi Shippers Council, focussed on underwriting and claims management of the Ecowas Brown Card Insurance Scheme as specified in the provisions of the scheme’s protocols.Speaking to the media in Takoradi, the CEO/General Secretary of the Ghana National Bureau of the scheme, Mr. Gabriel Glover highlighted the important role the police play in ensuring compliance by motorists across the sub-region.“Capacity building seminar like this one for the Police Service on transport and trade facilitation is key to ensuring the free flow of goods and services across our national borders. We are delighted to provide this educational program to the Ghana Police Service in all the regions because the scheme guarantees a motor insurance cover which leads to the realisation of the free movement objectives of Ecowas”, Mr. Glover added. The ECOWAS Brown-card Insurance Scheme was established following the endorsement of the 1982 Protocol to enhance the inter-states transports by the Head of Governments of the Economic Community of West African States. The Protocol as amended aims at facilitating free movement for the citizens of member states and guaranteeing fair and prompt compensation for damages suffered by victims of road accidents involving international roads users.
