A circuit court in Kumasi, on Wednesday sentenced Solomon Amponsah, a 60-year-old teacher, to 15 years' imprisonment with hard labour for defiling an eight-year-old pupil.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Madam Wilhelmina Hammond that the convict was a teacher at the Showers Of Blessings International School at Breman UGC, a suburb of Kumasi.
Prosecution said every morning the teacher sent the victim and other pupils to school and brought them back to their homes after classes.
Chief Inspector Baffour-Kyei said on May 27, 2007 at about 0023 the victim's grandmother saw blood coming out of her genitals while she was asleep.
Prosecution said when the grandmother asked the girl what happened to her, she said Amponsah had defiled her.
