The Central Regional Police Command have arrested ten persons who are alleged to have assaulted the chief of Jukwa Mbem.
Nana Takyi was said to have attended the inauguration of the new District at Twifu Hemang contrary to the directive by the Denkyira Paramouncy.
At a meeting with the Chiefs and elders of the Denkyira State to explain why he flouted the orders of the Paramount chief, Odefo Boamponsem, the sandals of the Nana Takyi was allegedly removed signifying his destoolement.
He was also alleged to have been assaulted.
The action has led to some tension in the area with some people reportedly leaving the town.
Joy News Richard Kojo Nyarko said two women and eight men have been picked up by the police.
Counsel of the arrested persons told Nyarko his clients are innocent and have been wrongfully arrested.
Michael Monney said if sandals of the chief were indeed removed it was merely a chieftaincy issue and not a police issue. But the police said there were aspects of rioting in the area.
Monney said he has only been able to bail two of the suspects, the women, with the rest still in police custody.
The people of Denkyira, Nyarko reported are still in a state of shock.
Spokesperson of the Denkyira State said the youth have fled the town for fear of being arrested.
“Some of them have just left the town. If the people leave the town like that it means it could be that they are going to rearm themselves and then come back.
I don’t know what is going to happen in the next few days,” EK Nana said.
He feared the situation could worsen as the country prepares for election 2012.
