The member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed has said that President Akufo-Addo was not honest with Ghanaians while delivering the state of the nation’s address.
According to him, the President failed to render a proper account of the current state of the economy.
The President on Wednesday, March 8, said his government has not been reckless in borrowing as the monies were used to fund urgent projects.
This, the Legislator described as a “legendary falsehood.”
“Tell me you didn’t see the palpable lies the President was peddling there. SONA is State of the Nation’s Address. The constitution expects you to tell us the true state of Ghana regardless of how bitter the state is, it cannot be rosy all the time.”
“The least the people of this country expected from the President was to come there and peddle such legendary falsehood,” he told JoyNews after the SONA.
The Legislator explained that although President Akufo- Addo referred to projects his government had undertaken, if compared to the amount borrowed, not much has been done.
Juxtaposing President Mahama’s government with the incumbent, Mr. Mohammed said, “out of the money President Mahama borrowed, the University of Ghana Medical Centre, the airport terminal three, the circle interchange, Ridge hospital, the regional hospitals across the country, the Eastern corridor road, which they abandoned is out of the amount.”
“Is not it shocking to you that the East Legon bypass the total contract sub was a little over $5 million, they abandoned this project and the state is now spending close to 50 million dollars to execute same. If this is not reckless borrowing tell me which is?”
