It's Thursday, and another Discerning Listener has sent us a thought-provoking message. Her name is Susan Adu-Aryee, and she is the Country Director for World Education Incorporated. It was originally written by Charles Swindoll and she calls it A Yes Face.
During Thomas Jefferson's presidency, he and a group of travelers were crossing a river that had overflowed its banks. Each man crossed on horseback fighting for his life. Some made it across, others did not.
A lone traveler watched the group traverse the treacherous river for a while, and then and then asked President Jefferson to take him across. The President agreed without hesitation, the man climbed on, and, after an epic struggle, the two made it safely to the other side of the river.
One of the President's men asked the traveller: "Why did you select the President to ask for a ride?"
The man was shocked. "I had no idea it was the President of the United States who had carried me safely across", he said. All I know is that on some of your faces was written the answer 'No' and on some of them was the answer 'Yes.' His was a 'Yes' face."
Friends, you never know who is watching you as you go about your business. You never know who is watching you in your most challenging moments. But ask yourself, what would an observer make of you if they saw how you tackle obstacles? What face would they see? A 'Yes' face, or a 'No' face?
The most significant decision I make each day is my choice of an attitude. When my attitudes are right there's no barrier too high, no valley too deep, no dream too extreme and no challenge too great. So let's get our attitudes right today. We won't get across the river unless we believe we can.
My name is Kojo Yankson, and I thank Susan Adu-Aryee for inspiring the nation.
GOOD MORNING, GHANAFO!
