Three people have been confirmed dead and seven others injured in the latest surge of violence that has plagued the Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region.Regional Minister Mark Wayongo who confirmed the death toll to Joy News has advocated for a state of emergency to be invoked by the president.“With the state of emergency the security will be given sweeping powers. Now they are a bit cautious because there are certain things they cannot do…The state of emergency will put fear in the people,” he reckoned. He said “there is a lot of impunity going on where people carry guns and shoot indiscriminately” he said, adding, "something drastic must be done.”Already 29 suspects have been picked up for screening. The Minister hinted traditional heads may soon be arrested if they keep protecting the culprits. He has however called for procurement of an helicopter to assist in fighting the crime.Uneasy calm has returned to the area, Mark Wayongo stated and applauded the military for bringing the situation under control.Causes for the renewed violence is sketchy, but Regional Police Commander, ACP Bright Oduro said some gun men shot into a group of mourners late Sunday.Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com.Ghana
