Three people have died, while 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a head-on collision involving two vehicles at Ajumako Kokoben in the Central Region.

The accident, which occurred on Monday, July 20, 2026, involved a Toyota Isuzu with registration number GE 1361-25 and a Toyota Voxy with registration number CN 478-26.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at about 12:10 p.m., with firefighters arriving at the scene nine minutes later.

According to the Service, four victims were trapped in the wreckage and were rescued by firefighters, while seven other injured persons had already been assisted by passersby before the emergency team arrived.

The injured victims were handed over to medical personnel and transported to a health facility for treatment.

Preliminary information gathered from a passenger at the scene indicated that the driver of the Toyota Voxy was allegedly overtaking another vehicle at high speed when poor visibility caused by dust led to the collision with the oncoming Toyota Isuzu.

The GNFS, however, said the exact cause of the accident is yet to be established as investigations continue.

Following the rescue operation, firefighters secured the scene, cleared the damaged vehicles and debris from the road, and restored the free flow of traffic before leaving the area at about 2:07 p.m.
