Three police officers - Inspector J.E.K. Mensah Station Officer, Detective Corporal Bawa Ayamba and Constable Ebenezer Cudjoe who effected the arrest of one Manye Nyanzu, who died in Police custody at a town near Elubo, have been interdicted.
28-year-old Manye Nyanzu was arrested for allegedly drugging and raping his friend’s wife but he died in police custody.
Radio Maxx’s Kwaku Owusu Peprah reports from Takoradi that Nyanzu was arrested on December 31 last year by some civilians who assaulted him brutally before handing him over to the police.
He says the family of the deceased refused to seek bail for him, frustrated by his notoriety for petty crimes.
The police also placed Nyanzu in police custody without attending to his wounds or feeding him for four days.
Some family members also claim they attempted to post bail for the deceased but the police demanded an amount of money which they could not provide.
The police are investigating the death.
