Here are the stories that made the news Thursday:

1. Police intensify search after 4 arrest in Kwabeny attack

The Police say nine persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of two police officers in Kwabenya and Lapaz in the last seven months. At least four suspects have been picked up in relation to the killing of Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi at the recent Kwabenya jailbreak. The remaining five suspects were arrested in connection to the day-light killing of Constable Daniel Owusu in July 2017. In the Kwabenya killing, a 28-year old woman Nancy Bentaah alias Awurama and George Yeboah Akarh, also known as Kwasi Shower, have been picked up in the gang attack at the police cell over the weekend at Kwabenya in Accra. Two out of seven other suspects who broke jail in the Kwabenya attack have also been arrested. The remaining five are still on the run.

2. 10 die in fatal Suhum accident 

At least ten people have been confirmed dead in an accident on the Accra-Suhum road late Thursday afternoon. A local journalist Jesse Amankwa who spoke to a NADMO official told Joy News the deceased persons include eight females, two males one of whom is barely two-years-old. The bodies of the deceased persons have been sent to the Nsawam Mortuary.

3. Controller and Accountant General denies being part of cash-for-seat event

The Controller and Accountant General has declined to respond to questions about the use of funds raised for the 2017 Ghana Expatriate Business Awards, saying he is not privy to that. Eugene Asante Ofosuhene told the Cash-for-seat Committee Thursday, he could not respond to matters about GEBA funds because he was not involved in the organization. The Special Investigative Committee is probing the alleged sale of presidential seats to some expats at the event.

4. NACOB seizes $500k worth of cannabis

The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has impounded a Kia truck full of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis at Buokono, near Asesewa in the Upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region. NACOB in the latter part of 2017 had a tip-off on a boat from Dzemeni in the Volta Region, which was loaded with cannabis and had offloaded its content onto a truck at a village near Asesewa with its final destination being Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.

5. International relations expert fumes over pathetic Gitmo 2 agreement

An International Relations expert is convinced that keeping the Guantanomo detainees in Ghana poses a serious security threat to the country. Dr Vladmir Antwi Danso said, had the two not been that dangerous, the government of the United States of America would have kept them and not sent them to Ghana. His comments come after public outrage following revelations that the two detainees had been given refugee status.

6. National Security hunts for two brothers in seized vintage vehicles saga

Operatives of National Security have mounted an intense search for two individuals suspected to be smuggling uncustomed vehicles into the country. The unnamed suspects said to be siblings, are also believed to be ringleaders of a gang of smugglers around the borders between Ghana and Togo. A Myjoyonline source says the two are key suspects in the illegal movement of two vintage Mercedes Benz vehicles into the country said to cost about $3.2 million.

7. Stop spreading falsehood about John Mahama - Aide writes

Aide to former President John Mahama has said publications in two newspapers regarding the former president's views on Free SHS are false and malicious. Joyce Bawah Mogtari said the Daily Guide and Daily Statesman newspapers carried publications on Thursday, claiming that Mr. Mahama "has contracted a magazine, the AfricaWatch, to publish what it says are damaging reports about the Free SHS policy." In a statement issued in Accra Thursday, she said, "the said false claim, which has been attributed to the Ministry of Education, has been reproduced by some online news portals, in yet another sponsored attempt by government to use false and malicious publications to bring the name of the former President into disrepute."
