Leading mobile telecoms giants,Tigo has donated furniture sets to the Sakumono TMA (2) School.
The furniture sets comprised is 60 Dual- Desk for JHS 1&2, and 60 tables and chairs for JHS 3 and 8 tables and chairs for the teachers.
The donation was in response to a letter from Headmistress of the School, Madam Doris Obeng, requesting assistance to furnish a three classroom block built by government but were yet to be furnished.
"This gesture feeds directly into our resolve at Tigo to help nurture the potentials of Ghanaian youth", a release from Tigo noted.
"In pursuance of this, Tigo Ghana has committed to a number of corporate social responsibilities such as Tigo Day of Caring series which affords Tigo employees the opportunity to devote their time, intellect and other resources toward supporting the less privileged in society.
"Notable among these under privileged societies is the Akropong School for Blind, the Borstal institute in Dzorwulu and the Accra Autistic Awareness centre. During such visits, Tigo employees embarked on clean up exercises, re-furbishment and painting. They also coached, encouraged and shared experiences with the young ones to spur them on to greater heights".
Meanwhile, Tigo's Reach for Change Project has identified nine social entrepreneurs who are to receive a total of $ 75,000 each over a three year period to enable them execute various projects aimed at improving the lives of children.
"Beyond children, Tigo is also committed to developing our communities and festivals and through its innovative programme TigoFest, the maternity ward of the Tafo Hospital has been given a facelift, over one thousand children below 18years in Greater Accra have been registered unto the NHIS scheme, a three classroom block at the Ameyaw JHS in Techiman have also been refurbished.
Management of the mobile network which is marking 20 years of operation in the country, says the compnay remains committed to the communities in which it operates and "we will continue to support the government and other state institutions to improve the general well-being of especially children and women".
