It seems our homes aren't the only things that get a little extra decoration at this time of year.
Women wear about three times as much make-up during the Christmas season, according to a poll, slathering 12 products on to their faces before a night out.
In contrast, they apply just four cosmetic items on a normal day and a mere eight on an evening out at any other time of year.
Of course, the time they spend in front of the mirror increases too, with an hour needed to create the perfect look for a Christmas party or meal with friends.
That's up from 20 minutes of preening on a typical day and 40 minutes of preparation for a non-festive evening out.
The survey found that the four everyday staples in a woman's make-up bag are mascara, foundation, blusher and lip gloss. On a regular night out, this doubles to eight when they add eyeliner, lipstick, eyeshadow and bronzer.
And when December arrives, it hits 12, with extra glamour coming from false eyelashes, glitter, highlighter and setting spray to make their look last longer.
The survey also found that women go out an average of four times a week in December.
Sara Stern of Debenhams, which carried out the study of 1,450 shoppers, said: "Even women who don’t normally wear make-up are getting into the festive spirit to impress at the Christmas party."
