Seventeen out of 18 government appointees to Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) were on Wednesday sworn into office.
The appointees made up of 11 men and six women were sworn-in by Mr Justice Nana Dwamena Tawiah, a Tema High Court Judge.
The Assembly also elected Mr Wisdom Gadasu and Mr Caleb Dorfenyo as its representatives to the Greater Accra Regional Electoral College to elect the region’s representative to the Council of State.
An argument which lasted for about 30 minutes broke out between the assembly members and Mr Kweku Akpotosu, Tema Metropolitan Coordinating Director who chaired the meeting when he announced that the election of a Presiding Member had been postponed.
He informed the members that a letter from Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) has ordered the assembly to postpone the election.
Some members of the assembly who did not agree with the postponement argued that its Standing Orders stipulated that a Presiding Member should be elected during the inaugural ceremony and should be the second business after the swearing-in of members.
However, Mr Akpotosu explained that the meeting was not to inaugurate the assembly but rather a special meeting to swear-in government appointees to the assembly.
