Vincent Acquah, a sibling of five brothers who are disabled and were featured under the “Rebecca the Hero” story aired during Season 2 of the Airtel Touching Lives reality show, undertook a three months internship at Airtel Ghana.The 23 year old Vincent who is a final year student of the Catholic University College in Sunyani is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration. He was assigned to the Enterprise Division of Airtel where he understudied his senior colleagues on the rudiments of Enterprise business and good office practice, in line with Airtel’s values of empowering people.Reacting to the news of his recruitment as an intern, Vincent said: “I’m extremely grateful to Airtel for giving me this enviable opportunity. Not only have they touched the lives of my brothers, they have also touched mine. Above all, this affords me the chance to develop my interpersonal skills to become a good team player.”Director of Enterprise at Airtel Ghana, Maxwell Dodd said it was a good opportunity for Vincent and challenged him to make the best of it.Airtel Touching Lives is an award winner at the 1st Institute of Public Relations Excellence awards 2013 is a public-driven initiative which encourages the public to nominate people who they believe is making a difference in the lives of their families and communities. Airtel supports such people after verification with support that makes an impact in their lives, empowers them and is sustainable. The initiative has seen schools renovated, hospitals assisted and poor families aided with sustainable livelihoods.Donald Gwira Head of Corporate Communications and External Affairs at Airtel Ghana said that Touching Lives was introduced to give a positive touch to the lives of yet another set of Ghanaians and to offer them a lifetime opportunity to change their lives for the better and, by extension, contribute to the wellbeing of the communities in which it operate.
