A preliminary report on the Allied Air cargo plane crash that occurred near the El-Wak sports stadium, has been presented to the Ministry of Transport in Accra.
A statement issued by Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister of Transport in Accra on Thursday and copied to Ghana News Agency said the report by the Accident Investigation Team indicated an unstable approach leading to the runway excursion (overrun).
According to the statement, the black box of the unfortunate Allied Air Cargo plane was recovered and flown to the United States to obtain data. This would assist in the determination of the probable cause(s) of the accident.
The statement said in the mean time, Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) had initiated action to replace the Instrument Landing System destroyed by the aircraft.
"The AIT has approved the removal of the wreckage and investigations are on-going," it added.
On the night of June 2, the Allied Air Boeing 727-200 (DHV 111), with registration 5N-BJN after landing on Runway 21 overrun the facility, destroyed the Instrument Landing System Localiser Bars, and broke through the airport perimeter wall killing nine persons in a bus and one on a motorbike.
