Aggrieved members of a driver association group at the Somanya Lorry Park at Madina are said to have attacked a colleague as a result of disputed elections. According the Madina Police Commander, Chief Superintendent David Eklu, they received reports in the early hours of Tuesday that someone had been attacked by a group within the lorry park over a disputed election at the station. Mr Eklu in an interview with Joy News indicated that the injured had been given forms to seek medical attention. He said the situation has been brought under control as five police officers have been deployed to the area to maintain calm. “I don’t think it is a very serious situation because I have just received reports from there and I have even invited the Chairman of the station… So I think that the situation now cannot be said to be too serious,” he revealed. Joy News’ Francisca Forson who was at the scene said about 20 young men wielding sticks and batons were moving up and down around the lorry station. She said earlier when she got to the scene, an eyewitness informed her that some young men were wielding machetes that forced people to hide as they sensed trouble. She however said she has not seen police men in uniforms in the area. Source: Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
