An unidentified young man riding a bicycle was crushed to death by an articulated truck loaded with a lumber at 9:30 am on Monday at the Takoradi Polytechnic traffic light.
The badly mutilated body of the deceased has been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue for identification.
The driver of the driver articulated truck with registration number FZB134 X which belongs to John Bitar Company, a timber processing company in Sekondi, Mr Kobina Tawiah said he was on his way to the Takoradi Port to offload the lumber in the truck, when suddenly his mate asked him to stop; only for him to hear a loud noise behind the truck at the traffic light.
He said he parked the truck and got down only to realize that a man riding a bicycle behind him had been crushed to death.
An eye witness, Mr Osei Manu who is a taxi driver sad he heard the articulated truck driver blowing the horn on approaching the deceased, but he was ignored and followed the truck only to meet his untimely death.
He said the back tyres of the truck dragged the deceased to a distant.
The Western and Central Regional Co-ordinator of the National Road Safety Committee, Bismark Boakye who was at the accident scene noted that the lumber on the truck was extended longer than was expected and that posed danger to other road users.
He called on all articulated truck drivers to ensure that goods loaded on trucks did not pose danger to other road users.
