Clement Osadu Darko, 20, a community police personnel, attached to the Cape Coast Metropolitan District Police Headquarters and a Metro Guard, Kweku Sarpong, also 20, on Thursday, appeared before a circuit court in Cape Coast, for allegedly raping a 16-year old girl. They pleaded not guilty to rape and abetment of crime respectively and were remanded into prison custody to reappear on Thursday, November 4.Prosecuting, Inspector Daniel Agbezulor, told the court, presided over by Mr Samuel Asare-Nyarko that, on Sunday, October 17, at about 22:00 hrs, the victim, together with her boyfriend went to the beach for a stroll. He said the two accused persons approached them and for no apparent reasons, arrested and put them in handcuffs. He said upon persistent pleadings, the victim’s boyfriend was released on condition that he paid some money but the victim, who knew Darko also pleaded with him, but he failed to release her.Inspector Agbezulor said about an hour later, when the victim’s boyfriend had not returned, Darko demanded sex from her, but she refused and the two allegedly dragged her into a nearby wooden structure, where she was raped by Darko, whiles Sarpong watched around. He said the victim’s boyfriend showed up at the scene together with her two brothers and she was freed of her handcuffs. The girl narrated her ordeal to them and a repot was made to the Cape Coast Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU), where she was issued with a police medical report form to attend hospital.Source: GNA
