Two persons are reported dead and seven others injured following Wednesday’s ethnic clashes between the people of Konkomba and Bimoba, at Kpemali near Nankpanduri in the Northern region.
The clashes were reportedly sparked by a disagreement between members of the two groups, over a parcel of land on which the Kpemali RC Primary School is situated.
The situation led to sporadic shooting in the town. Several residents have been forced to flee the community.
Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, says the dead have been buried and the injured are receiving treatment at various health centres in the region.
ASP Ebenezer Tetteh has however assured residents of their resolve to bringing the situation under control.
He said police will continue to clamp down on recalcitrant residents who are responsible for causing mayhem in the town.
Meanwhile, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh is asking conflict resolution experts to find a lasting solution to this recurring conflict.
Even though Police spokesperson acknowledges that engaging the parties involved in the conflict in dialogue is the best approach to solving the problem, he is of the opinion that the remote causes equally need to be tackled by experts.
