The world’s leading premium drinks business, Diageo, has announced finalists of the annual Diageo Africa Business Reporting Awards (DABRA) for 2013. This year marks the ten-year anniversary of the awards, which were initiated to recognise journalists and editors who provide high quality coverage of the business environment in Africa. In a statement signed by Preba Greenstreet, the Corporate Relations Director of Guinness Ghana Brewery Limited (GGBL), a subsidiary of Diageo, she stated that “Diageo is pleased to announce that two journalists from Ghana have made the shortlist: Thomas Naadi Bitegma (ETV Ghana), shortlisted in the Best Agribusiness and Environment category with his story ‘The E-Waste Menace in Ghana’; and Pauline Bax (Bloomberg, Ghana), shortlisted in the Best Finance Feature with her entry ‘Ivory Coast’s Women Reject Equality in Household Law Debate”. Over 1,000 entries were received from across Africa and the rest of the world, representing the very best reporting from print, broadcast and new media. A panel of eminent judges will now select the winners of each category. Winners of the ten categories will be announced during the Awards ceremony, which will take place in London on Wednesday 17th July 2013. Commenting on this year's awards, Nick Blazquez, President of Diageo Africa, Turkey, Russia & Eastern Europe said, “This year’s awards have once again demonstrated the increasing strength and depth of reporting on African business matters.
