A district magistrate court at Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, has remanded two persons from Asikuma for stealing cocoa beans belonging to Trans Royal Olam Cocoa Purchasing Company in the town.
Kwame Insebey, a taxi driver and Kobina Opertey, a farmer pleaded guilty and would re-appear at court on May 22, 2008.
Police Chief Inspector Gershon Awuyeh told the court presided over by Miss Cynthia Hammond said that on the May 2, 2008 at mid-night, the accused persons and three others now on the run, wearing masks, gagged Dargeti, tied his hands and legs together and beat him.
Chief Inspector Awuyeh said they broke into the company’s warehouse and stole 11 bags of cocoa and sold them to Mr Kweku Abeakutu, a purchasing clerk of another cocoa purchasing company in the town.
According to prosecution, the watchman was rescued by some passers-by the next morning and he reported the incident to the purchasing clerk of the company whose name was only given as Mr Bentil.
Chief Inspector Awuyeh said Insebey and Opertey were arrested when Mr Abeakutu immediately informed Mr Bentil that he had bought cocoa from the accused.
He said efforts were being made to arrest the other three accomplices.Source: GNA
