Two police officers have been killed in gun battles with armed robbers in less than two weeks. The first officer was killed in a robbery incident at the Tema Community 4 branch of the United Bank for Africa.
Before the administration could get over that tragic incident, another officer was shot and killed at the weekend by armed robbers at Tuba-Galelia near Kasoa in the Central Region.
He was part of a team of police officers who went to arrest a notorious armed robber at his hideout. Three other officers sustained serious injuries in that incident.
Sections of the public terrified at the incidents, have been asking questions of the police’s preparedness for the weekend’s assignment.
Acting public relations officer of the Greater Accra Regional Police Corporal Kwabena Danso told Joy News the criticisms are unjustified.
He said every patrol team is briefed before personnel embark on their mission.
However, he said the police have made inroads into where the notorious armed robber is hiding.
“We are picking signals from our intelligence network on the ground and within the shortest possible time the said armed robber Tetteh Dauda would be apprehended.”
Meanwhile, police in Tema are adopting new strategies to fight bank robberies. The initiative will involve all banks and other financial institutions in the Metropolis.
