Two suspected armed robbers have been killed following a shootout with the Ghana Police Service during an anti-robbery operation along the Atebubu highway in the Bono East Region.
According to a police statement, the incident occurred on July 30, 2025, when a patrol team encountered a group of highway robbers attacking commuters.

It said that upon sighting the police, the suspects opened fire, prompting officers to return fire in self-defense.
“Two of the suspects were fatally wounded during the exchange and were rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival,” the police said.
The police stated that the rest of the gang fled into the nearby bushes, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

A search of the scene led to the retrieval of a short gun loaded with two live cartridges, four spent cartridges, and a machete.
The police have assured the public that intensive efforts are ongoing to bring the remaining criminals to justice and maintain safety along major road networks.
