Two United States based companies have expressed interest in setting up a biosphere plant to convert all kinds of waste into electricity and water in various locations in the country.
Mr. John Monteiro, President of ASEC Corporation and Mr. Adrain Olivera, vice president of Global Entrepreneurial Endeavours, announced this when they called on Ms. Betty Bosomtwi-Sam, Deputy Western Regional Minister, at her office in Sekondi.
They also held joint discussions on their proposals with Mr. Kobina Pra Annan, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr. Anthony Bassaw, District Chief Executive for Mpohor Wassa East, Miss Emelia Arthur, District Chief Executive for Shama, Mrs. Christina Cobbina, District Chief Executive for Wassa West and Mr. Jones Amoah, District Chief Executive for Ahanta West.
Mr. Monteiro said the government would have to agree to the purchase of the water and electricity before the processors could be built.
"A team of experts from the United States of America would take about one year to build the plants", he said.
Mr. Monteiro said the companies have also proposed an affordable housing project to make it possible for the low income earners to own houses.
Mr. Oliveira noted that landfill sites have not comprehensively solved the emerging waste problems of many countries adding: "The Biosphere technology is a perfect system that uses three processes or regulatory methods to ensure zero emission of harmful substances into the environment".
He said the companies are ready to go into partnership with the government, local authorities and firms to get the project running while training locals to create jobs for the people.
Ms. Bosomtwi-Sam said government is ready to work hand in hand with companies and individuals who have the interest of developing the country.
She said the proposals of the companies are timely because waste management is becoming a problem for the country especially in the foreseeable future for the region following the discovery of oil in the area.Source: GNA
