Police and military personnel have been dispatched to prevent further clashes between Kokombas and Bimobas in the Northern regional town of Kpemale.
The cause of the clashes is still sketchy even though some believe controversy over a piece of land is to blame for it.
Some students of Nakpanduri Business Senior High School which is located close to the village are said to have been caught up in the cross fire.
The school's headmaster Harrison Salifu told Joy News some of the students have left home for mid-term after the independence anniversary celebration but the few who would pass through the troubled village to their homes have been left stranded.
He said he needs a police escort to enable the students go home safely.
Multi TV’s Hasmin Mohammed said an uneasy calm has returned to the area.
According to him, reports of gunshots were heard blaring around 5:00 pm which forced security personnel to move closer to the village.
He said the men fled to the bushes even before the security personnel arrived.
Mohammed said the clashes between the two ethnic groups have been protracted and hardly a year passes without a clash.
Last year, similar clashes at the same village and between the two ethnic groups led to destruction of properties, he narrated.
Today’s clashes have led to hundreds fleeing the village to Nakpanduri for safety, he said.
