Beginning today September 8, 2014, all mobile phone users in the country can access customer service from service providers through the additional harmonized short codes issued by industry regulator National Communication Authority (NCA).
The service which can be accessed through the harmonized codes are recharging credit, checking credit balance and call centre enquiries.
This means, it does not matter which network one uses, the new harmonized short codes for Call Centre enquires is 100, for credit recharge is 134; and for checking balance is 124.
Mobile Number Portability service (MNP) is also available on 600 from all networks and verification of SIM registration is on 400, while Voice Mail deposit is on 108 and Voice mail retrieval is on 109.
The NCA earlier announced that new harmonized short codes will work alongside the existing ones for the various networks until April 2015 when the old ones would be completely scrapped for the new ones to take over fully.
The NCA said all calls on the harmonized short codes will remain free except the Voice Mail service, which may come with charges determined by the respective service provider.
NCA Director-General Paarock VanPercy has been telling Adom Busines the NCA as the regulator is always looking to work with the network operators and other stakeholders to ensure that consumers’ experiences are greatly enhanced, and this is part of such customer-centric initiatives.
He said measures are also being put in place to streamline the issuance of short codes for the various value added services (VAS) such as bulk sms, short audios, videos and others the telcos and their content providers do.
"NCA is going to take over the issuance of those codes very soon and ensure some sanity in the system," he said.
Meanwhile staff of Adom News have been trying the various harmonized short codes on all six networks and they are working.
