The University of Ghana (UG) have been crowned champions of the 2026 Honda Football Championship following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the University for Development Studies (UDS) in the final.
UG entered the tournament with a strong winning mentality and maintained their focus from the group stage through to the final.
They secured qualification from the group stage after winning two of their three matches, with their only defeat coming against the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), who edged them 2-1.
In the semi-finals, UG faced the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in a tightly contested encounter that ended goalless after regulation and extra time.
The Legon-based side, however, held their nerve in the penalty shootout, cruising to a 4-1 victory to book their place in the final.
The final against UDS lived up to expectations, with both sides displaying intensity and determination.
UG made a dream start to the game, taking the lead in the opening minute through Mamudu Farouk, who capitalised early to put his side ahead.
They continued to press for a second goal while remaining solid at the back, effectively managing the game against a determined UDS side.
UDS pushed for an equaliser but were unable to break down a well-organised UG defence, as the Legon side held on to secure a narrow victory.
The win sees the University of Ghana clinch the 2026 Honda Football Championship title, capping off an impressive campaign defined by discipline, resilience and composure.
