The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, has called on students from the region to be peace promoters by building bridges of peace wherever they find themselves.
He said this could be achieved if they have frequent interaction with one another irrespective of their political, ethnic or religious affiliations.
The Regional Minister said this in an address read for him at the inauguration of the Upper East Students Union of the University of Education, Winneba (UPESU) on Sunday.
Mr Woyongo urged the students to organize education programmes for youth groups to eschew drugs and substances that push them into committing violent acts.
He said as youth and students, they had a very crucial and important role to play in the search for peace and development of the region.
Mr Woyongo said the government had not relented in its efforts to find lasting solution to conflicts in the region, adding that it welcomed views in the search for peace that has eluded the people of Bawku.
The incoming president of the Union, Mr Boazii B. Patrick, appealed to Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to assist the union financially and materially to enable it undertake education campaigns on the need to ensure peace in the region.
