The Upper West Regional Director for the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, Worlanyo Siebe has warned that residents who are refusing to pay for their piped-borne water are threatening a collapse of the project.
According to him, only one out of the 17 piped water systems installed in the region is currently functioning because the beneficiary communities have refused to pay for the maintenance of the project.
He gave the warning at a review workshop on the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Assisted Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programe at Wa.
Correspondent Rafik Salam reports that although Mr Worlanyo Siebe is happy the region had achieved the MDG target for potable water, he was concerned that the gains will be reversed if attitudes don’t change.
