Nigerian Housemate in this year’s Big Brother All Stars reality show, Uti Nwachukwu was Sunday crowned winner of the 91-day show. Held up in a tight competition with four other Housemates, that is, Lerato, Munya, Sheila and Mwisho, Uti beat his closest rival who was widely expected to win, Munya Chidzonga from Zimbabwe, by eight votes to seven. The finale was a fun-packed event as IK, host of the show, made an entrance and introduction to the show from an air balloon decorated with flags of the 14 participating countries. He then interacted with the remaining Housemates and recapped their moments in the House, setting the stage for the finale to begin. After Maya performed the Big Brother Africa theme song, evicted Housemates led by Ghana’s Sammi were ushered in. When the finale evictions started, Sheila was the first to leave followed by Mwisho and Lerato in that order. Nervy moments preceded the announcement of the winner of the reality show. As the envelope of the winner was handed over to IK, Uti and Munya sat still in the sofa clearly displaying the unease and tension between them. IK had to finally let the cat out of the bag and contrary to expectations, Uti, who many say defied all odds was announced winner, taking home the ultimate prize of US$200,000 and making him the second Nigerian to win the reality show two years in a row. As soon as he was announced winner, Uti jumped into the sofa and started singing the Nigerian national anthem. Munya on the other hand could not believe what happened. Looking dejected, he walked slowly onto the stage and as soon as he saw his family, he burst into tears in his mother’s arms. The new winner, Uti was ushered onto the stage by fireworks. After his interaction with IK and the presentation of his white envelope (cheque) which showed he was Big Brother All Stars winner, Uti was given a remote control to officially shut down the Big Brother House and the show. The finale also witnessed exciting performances from MI from Nigeria, Wyre from Kenya, 2face from Nigeria and Black Coffee and Tumelo from South Africa.
