Vice-President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has said that government would reach out to chiefs and people to learn at first hand problems confronting them and provide solutions.
"A New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is not an arm-chair government. We will not sit in the castle and the offices to rule," he said when addressing a colourfuldurbar of the chiefs and people of Afutuakwa Traditional Area at Assin Foso to end his three-day official visit to the Central Region.
He said government had within the past seven years improved the socio-economic development of the country.
Alhaji Mahama expressed concern about the acute water problem in the area and directed Mr Kwabena Karikari-Apau, Assin North District Chief Executive to contact him in Accra for the needed assistance.
He assured the people that Obiri Yeboah Senior Secondary School at Assin Foso would be upgraded into a model school during the second phase of the programme while provision of social infrastructure such as roads, electricity, market and a polyclinic, would be tackled by government.
Vice President Mahama directed the Central Regional Co-ordinating Council to terminate the contract on the Assin Foso-Ghana Immigration Training School-Assin Dompim road for non-performance and award it to a competent contractor for early completion of the project.
Nana Bimpong Kotroka II, Adontenhene of the traditional area, commended government for introducing the school feeding programme and appealed for more schools within the area to benefit.
He appealed to government to complete some abandoned projects in the area, such as Assin Foso Fire Station, Divisional Police Headquarters, District Magistrate's and Circuit court, District Education Office and Ministry of Health building.
Nana Kotroka commended government for its good work that had made Ghana to regain her respect and dignity, peace, stability, rule of law, democracy and respect for human rights.
