Vice President John Mahama has urged students of Commonwealth hall to be calm ahead of a planned major protest march tomorrow.
Students of the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana, popularly known as Vandals, are protesting the university’s decision to convert the all-male hall into a mixed gender graduate hall.
They therefore petitioned the Vice-president, himself an Alumnus of the Hall to intervene in the matter.
Addressing members of the National Union of Ghana Students and some Vandals on Wednesday, the Vice President appealed to the students to call off their demonstration planned for Thursday.
The police were called in Wednesday to restore order as students of the Hall disrupted exams on campus.
Some students had their examination papers snatched while one had the ID card taken away but later retrieved.
The chief examiner Dr Francis Baniru said the examination was delayed for several minutes due to the disruptions.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations officer of the University, Stella Amoah says such unruly behaviour will not be tolerated and a decision is expected on the disruption.
