Three members of a gang gunned down by police in Kumasi on Tuesday have been linked to series of robberies involving thousands of Ghana Cedis and other valuables.
The leader, known simply as Abacha, and his group have been identified by some operators of microfinance institutions and supermarkets robbed recently in Kumasi.
One AK 47 assault rifle, a pump action gun, a pistol and a number of bullets and cartridges were seized from the fallen suspects.
One police officer sustained gunshot wound during one of the firefights in which the suspects were killed, according to the police.
Police have confirmed that the suspects' exploits include the robbery of a microfinance company and a supermarket at Ayeduase, where they made away with 20,000 Ghana Cedis.
They also robbed the Santasi branch of Unity Oil Fuel station, Noble Dream Financial Company Limited and a Cement shop at Kotwi, close to Kumasi.
Meanwhile, Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Augustine Gyenning told journalists on Tuesday that a fourth suspect is being pursued by the police and is believed to be hiding at Adankwame on the Barekese road.
