A video of a uniformed policeman firing his gun into the air, in apparent celebration of the nomination of Asawase MP, Muntaka Mubarak, as the Minister for the Interior, has set tongues wagging.
In the video, Muntaka, dressed in a flowing, all-white agbada, is seen emerging from a room into the compound, whereupon he is met by two policemen who appear to be his guards, and others in the background.
He is greeted with animated congratulations, with a distinct voice saying it is he who truly deserves, rather than the merely hungry, who must be honoured.
Muntaka acknowledges the salutations with a wide grin, and proceeds to shake hands with a second uniformed policeman, and embraces another man in plain clothes. This second policeman then proceeds to open the door of his vehicle, while the other slips behind the vehicle to rework his gun.
It is unclear when the video was shot, but while some deem his behaviour as unprofessional and lacking any justification, others suggest he may have been seized by the momentary euphoria to have volleyed the shots.
The 32 seconds video ends with Muntaka settling in his seat to be driven out.
