Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has held discussions with the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, as part of ongoing efforts to resolve tensions surrounding the temporary closure of the Ho Central Mosque in the Volta Region.
According to a post shared on Fcaebook by the Ministry, the Ho Muslim community had witnessed a protracted conflict for about 5 years over who would become the Volta Regional Chief Imam.

The community has therefore been divided into two, with each part owing allegiance to Alhaji Alfa Anas Hamid and Alhaji Muniru Ali, who both claim to be the Volta Regional Chief Imam.
Despite the National Chief Imam selecting and installing Alhaji Muniru Ali as the legitimate Volta Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Alfa Anas Hamid and his followers objected to this, though he was appointed as the Deputy Volta Regional Chief Imam.

The meeting, which took place in Accra, focused on mediation measures aimed at restoring calm and fostering unity within the Muslim community in Ho following the closure of the mosque.

It comes shortly after the Minister received a delegation of chiefs, elders and imams from the Muslim community at his office in Accra.

The delegation presented their concerns over the situation and appealed for government intervention to ensure a peaceful and lasting resolution.
