Activities at the Tamale Teaching Hospital have come to a temporary halt due to an acute water crisis at the facility.
The situation is so dire that both patients and medical workers have resorted to buying sachet water for use at the hospital.
The water crisis has also resulted in a foul stench at the facility since wash rooms and gutters have not been scrubbed for weeks.
Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Nii Otoo Ankrah, says the situation must be blamed on the Ghana Water Company due to the utility provider's inability to supply the hospital with the required water pressure.
He said the pressure at which water is supplied to the hospital is so low that it does not run through the taps.
The water company however says although power failure is partly a cause of the water crisis, faulty pumps of a hospital is also a major contributory factor.
Nii Otoo Ankrah explains that although the Ghana Water Company has assured the Hospital that they will soon rectify the situation, fears of an outbreak of infections has caused authorities to shut the facility down temporarily.
